Our Work

1. SUPERVISION & CONSULTATION

Engaging with babies and young children is rewarding, fulfilling, and hope inspiring. It is often the reason we move into this field and become passionate advocates for our youngest community members. The privilege of being alongside them in the world is we witness moments of joy and wonderment as well as moments of pain and sadness. We do not expect infants to move through the world alone, and nor should professionals

Reflective supervision holds us in our work with infants and their families, so that we can maintain a thinking mind and feeling heart to be able to attune, respond, and reflect. Just as infant’s need to be nourished and taken care of, so too do supervisees.

The CFIW offers reflective supervision and consultation that is grounded in infant mental health theory and framed by the Reflective Interaction Observation Scale (RIOS™) developed specifically for early years professionals. Movement into deeper reflective spaces is made possible with embodied and arts-based supervision practice.

3. RESEARCH PROJECTS

The Centre supports research and projects focused on expanding the reach of the therapeutic arts to infants and families across Australia in any setting. We understand how important it is to gain a rich understanding of the benefits, lived experiences, and impacts of programs and other initiatives through formal evaluation. We have a particular interest in qualitative and postqualitative methods, arts and play-based research, and interdisciplinary collaborations that actively centre the infant’s voice and experiences
